Great for 2nd and 3rd graders. The use of alphabet and matching words were excellent. The illustrations were well done and matched the rhyme. Informative, but I kept feeling like an undercurrent message was trying to force its way through. The information about Thanksgiving was good, yet since a comment about the clothing was made, it would have been a perfect opportunity to mention why clothes were the author said the clothes were bright and the belt not silver.
Excellent nonfictional information for young children regarding the first Thanksgiving, as well as excellent letters and sounds identification teaching tool my prekindergarten class. They not only learned a lot, but loved listening to the story and loved discussing the illustrations! Big Hit!
I used this for my class of 5th graders before we got our for Thanksgiving. Initially we thought it was a “baby†book, but they loved it! And it turned out to have a 4.8 AR reading level! I served Mayflower Munch afterwards and the kids enjoyed the book and snack.
Its so difficult to find a good book about Thanksgiving, and this is an easy to read and understand story. It's presented as a school play, and is written in short rhymes and in an A is for ... format. The illustrations are lovely and engaging, and there is a fair amount of history snuck into the story so the reader (even adults) may learn something. At then end there is a short summary of the whole story that older children could enjoy.
Bought this book to get my son excited for Thanksgiving and I am very disappointed. I felt they could have picked better words for each letter. Was going to return but they wanted to charge me more then what I paid for the book, to return it.
This is an extremely cute introduction to Thanksgiving for toddlers. My 4 year old REALLY enjoyed it because the story was told through the alphabet, making it very fun. The story was much to long to hold the attention of my 2 year old, though. I really enjoyed the pictures (which show children in a play of Thanksgiving, a very clever way to illustrate to children the story). The theme of giving thanks and equality is evident and engages the child through fun rhymes!
Not a good as H is for Halloween. My 4 year old didn't like it much, neither did I.
Teaching history in rhyme to little readers...impressive! The great rhymes and lilting sound of the words wraps the reader into the story. My grandchildren loved this book. Want to get a copy for my kindergartener's classroom.
