I loved the story, it started with a alot of action and drama. It had me at the edge of my seat, couldn't put the book down. The whole story was great but it left me wanting more, I didn't want the story to end.

The Mercenary Pirate begins with an exciting encounter in a tavern that has the hero, Wolf, bargaining with a pirate to purchase/rescue a woman, Selina, who is disguised as a boy. It's followed by a brawl, fights, a fire, an escape by sea, and an ambush, as well as more mundane exchanges to explain how Selina came to be in such terrible straits and Wolf's own amazing background. And Wolf's background is truly incredible; "mercenary pirate" is merely a cover for the character who works as a spy for Wellington during the Napoleonic Wars and claims to have honed martial arts skills in Japan and tracking skills with the Indians of the colonies. The tale is filled with action, intrigue, and a bit of romance... sort of Wolverine goes to sea and falls in love.I found the story to be fun so long as I didn't think very hard about any of the details. People change their minds and things work out seemingly because everyone automatically understands that Wolf and Selina are the heroes. The first chapter is crammed full of explanations of people and events that happened in the past, presumably in one the 9 previous books of the series which are not currently available for the Kindle. Most of the characters are shallow and easily summed up with a name and a couple adjectives. I very much felt like I was reading a comic story without the pictures.On the plus side, the writing was competent with minimal spelling or grammatical errors, making it a pleasant read. It's just not really my cup of tea.
Reading the first have of this book I was positive this was going to be a five star book for me but then the second half slipped a little (when she arrived home) and the ending didn't tie up any of the loose ends at all at the end of the book! Not the villain, not the h's missing brother, not the H's missing evil brother and not the story behind the H's missing family! It was like I wasted my time reading this book. I don't know if this was a book that was supposed to have a sequel, if it was I wish it had said that from the begining. I like stand alones and this didn't read like one at the end! I gave it a three star because I did like the first part of the book and the main Characters! But like me, without a proper ending you might find it very disappointing otherwise!

There is one character, a bad one, that I detested, but I won't mention his name, I'll let you find out which one he is.This romance was well written and I could not put it down, it kept me interested until the end.
