I struggled with care plans in the beginning of nursing school. They can seem easy at first but once you start getting patients with multiple issues going on, it can become diffcult to pick the most applicable NANDAs and prioritize them. This book has helped me tremendously with my NCPs and I get almost perfect grades on them now. Using this book really helps "connect the dots" and lets you know if you're on the right track. I prefer to start with the pathophys and select my NANDAs from there. That is how this book it organized. It also gives a short background on each diesease, which is helpful.
This book is a life saver for nursing school. We have to write A LOT of care plans and as any student nurse or graduate knows they are time consuming. This book breaks down different diagnosis with interventions and rationals it also gives you outcomes as well. I used it almost daily, I did have to tailor my patients condition to the care plan of course but this book helped so much. I have recommended it to incoming nursing students as a must have survival tool.
This is a large reference book, however this one is the most complete and comprehensive I have found to date. I do have several care plan books - but each one with the exception of this volume is devoted to a nursing specialty. Each nursing diagnosis developed is based on the NANDA International label unless it is otherwise specified. The first chapter covers utilized care plans to individualize and improve care for your patients. It gives you a basic guideline to follow in the development of care plans for your patient. The format is alphabetical starting with Activity Intolerance and ending with Urinary Retention. Subsequent chapters expand on these categories as they are related to the patient's progress through the system i.e., pre- or post-operative care, chemotherapy, integumentary issues, renal and urinary tract issues, etc. The book is very thorough and helped me to understand how the different parts and pieces of a care plan are related and how to develop and execute a care plan that leads to better outcomes for the patient. Great book, I use it alot, the pages are getting dogeared and marked up.
I am a first semester nursing student and this book is AWESOME. Sometimes it is hard to formulate a good diagnosis, but this book even has them organized by disease/illness/problem w/multiple care plans. So, that is a plus, it takes a lot of the guesswork out of making a good plan of care. It will definitely get you a great grade and improve your patient care! I have nothing negative to say about this book.
A lot of good information to help you write care plans. I knocked off one star as the on-line support is not as good as they try to make it seem. Also, despite the amount of information, don't be surprised if you are using this for nursing school if teachers don't accept all the information as presented. Care plans can be very useful but schools seem to use them as ransom over students heads about their grades.
Best care plan book out there! This book has saved my SOOOOOO many hours writing care plans for my patients. I would definitely recommend this to any nursing student. I love the fact that you can look up nursing diagnosis by the patient diagnosis. It comes with a bunch of great rationale! Buy it!
Makes life a bit easier as a nursing student looking for proper wording and nursing diagnosis. While it won't write your care plan for you it will help guide you. Definitely worth the buy especially if the one you use in class is junk (like most textbooks).
I love this book! I use it to supplement my other nursing diagnosis books and bounce off ideas for my care plans. But this book makes student nurse life a little more easier with eye friendly pages and easy to understand tips and tricks.I especially love how the book classifies diseases into systems such as pneumonia being in respiratory system, along with possible diagnosis, goals, interventions and rationales.Life made easier!
