I gave it 3 stars as this book would not appeal to a lot of people. First of all it is not quick reading and secondly, a lot of people are not interested in the origin of names. I am because it is so interesting to learn that names we consider to be very Scots or English or Italian, or what ever , actually have their origins from the countries which invaded them. For instance, in the case of the Scots the country was invaded by the Romans, the Vikings, the French and one clan name has Flemish roots I learned. When the invaders stayed and intermarried, they left definite imprints of their culture which in turn became incorporated into the culture that was invaded.

There were some interesting facts about the major clans; however, I was hoping the book would list out the septs associated with each clan. I was disappointed to find my ancestral clan was not in the book. Nonetheless, it is a good jumping off point for those who are interested in Scottish clans and their historical significance.

This book has wonderful information regarding the history of many clans in Scotland. It discusses the families and some of their history. If possible, the information provided even leads up to current families and where they live. This is a book I can use for reference when reading about Scotland and its history. It provides great insight into the struggles this country, and its inhabitants, endured in the past.

So, I found a bit of history about the clan of my wife and my brother in low. Not too much though but that's not the aim of the book. It offers just basic information which for myself at this stage was fair enough.

Disclaimer: I was given this product free to try with the understanding that I would write an honest review of it. My review has not been biased.First off, this book was a lot thinner than I expected. That's a good thing - don't misunderstand me. The problem I've had in the past with other books for the MAT is that they try to cover every conceivable possibility. This makes them huge, unwieldy, and I find that I stress about trying to learn/remember everything in them that I either give up, or I just barely skim over the information. It's too much.I appreciate the size because the authors are very concise. There is one page about test-taking tips. They don't explain, they don't go into detail, they just make 20 well thought-out suggestions about how to test better. They then explain what the test is and take one page to explain what an analogy is. Four pages are dedicated to helping you understand relationships between words and how to be successful on those types of questions. They give question samples and explanations. They break relationships down into only three categories: Association, Inclusion, and Meaning.Eight pages are spent on Strategies. They explain different strategies and give examples to help you work through them. Some of the strategies are common sense to some of us: Eliminate answers, use logic, read carefully. Others are strategies I have only seen in this book: Trap of familiarity, face value, use jujitsu (I won't go into detail about how you use jujitsu on this exam - you'll have to buy the book and find out!)There's one page of final notes that just summarize the most important things, like not panicking and making sure you're using your time wisely (you don't want to run out!!)The section you're waiting for is next. There are 2 120-question practice tests. They try to mimic the real test as best as possible. You know how these testing companies don't give out much about their tests, so it's difficult to make practice tests or study guides. This is why I've been frustrated because the practice tests I've found in the past were nothing like the real test... or that the study guides covered far, far too much to ever be useful for anything other than burning me out. This study guide comes as close to the real test as possible. The best part is that there is an explanation for each and every one of the 240 questions.This all covers only 50 pages of the 88 page book. We should be done by now, right? Wrong.Included in the pages past your practice tests is a bunch of useful information.-How to Pay For Graduate School-Analyzing Potential Scholarships/Fellowships-Explanation of MAT scores and admissions by major-5 Secret Keys for Success (you'll have to buy the book to see them!)They try to correlate your score to your IQ - which is helpful, because this is one of the tests that MENSA will take for admission if your score is high enough.How do you overcome test anxiety? They give you 9 pages of tips, tricks, and ways to prepare yourself and overcome anxiety.Are you terrible of math? Does it make you not want to take the test? How about 8 pages of math tips, tricks, and ideas? If one doesn't work for you, there's several more to try.They also offer some bonus material at the end (because all of the extra stuff just wasn't enough).Overall, I give the book 5 stars. Yes, it gives you tips, tricks, practice tests, and everything else that you expect. The test and explanations are concise and brief to keep from overwhelming you. But the book also helps you use and interpret your score - whether you want to use it for grad school admission or entrance into MENSA. It also helps you decide how to pay for school, how to overcome test anxiety and how to improve your math skills. I've never seen a study guide include all of those things.Seriously, this is the best resource I've been able to find.Don't be fooled by how thin the book appears to its competitors. This book packs a huge punch that is immensely more useful and helpful on the test than the others were.

Using study guides can be very helpful and some professors even hand them out and allow students to fill them in with various things they have learned in the class. When it came to this test, I was given no study guide, but I still wanted one to use in order to get through the material. I thought I might have to make one and I was willing to do that, but I knew that would take a lot of time. I looked online to see if I could find some sort of outline or something I could use as a starting point. When I used this study guide, I had hope. It was for the very miller analogies test I was going to take and I thought it might prove helpful. Boy did I underestimate this study guide! It was way more than just helpful. The guide claimed to be effective and comprehensive and that’s exactly what it was, though I wish I could think of words even larger than those to say that same thing. The guide had everything in it that I needed to learn in order to do well on the test. I didn’t have to go back and fill anything in at all. There were NO blanks! I was glad to have all the material in one place and I took notes as I went, highlighting areas that I needed to study harder. The guide was cheap and it was well worth the money. Now that I know what I got, I would have paid a lot more for it, that’s for sure.

I love the MAT study cards because they are easy, light and I can take them with me anywhere.I study everywhere I go without wasting precious time. I would give the study cards and the book review a 5 star...due to the easy to remember tips from your experts. Thank you! I love studying the MAT review book written by experts. It is easy to follow and I have learned a lot. Thank you for providing this book for people who have been out of school for a long time!!

I purchased the MAT Secrets Study Guide back in July but, unfortunately, am just getting the time to begin studying. I have only gotten through the explanations of the questions and what to look for and how to go about solving each different type of question and find it so much more helpful that other avenues I've tried. I have skimmed through a bit and appreciate that there are so many practice test as well. I am optimistic about what I will learn as well as what I will score on the actual test and look forward to using this tool.Â

It has only 2 practice tests with childish advice as secrets! such as sleep well or eat well before you take the test. it also advise you on graduate schools and financial aid. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. I did not have a stellar undergraduate GPA; therefore, it was critical that I score well on my graduate school entrance exam. I knew I was capable of doing well in graduate school; I simply did not apply myself in my Bachelor'sprogram. My graduate school advisor recommended that I take the MAT rather than the GRE, so I purchased "MAT Secrets" because of the money-back guarantee. Boy did I make the right choice. I read the study guide thoroughly and took the MAT only once. I scored a 93! What a great resource! It was worth every penny.

Recently I have purchased the Miller Analogies Study Guide. I have begun to review yet. It is very insightful. I am beginning to understand the types of question being asked and how to respond. I like how the book provides authentic questions, the answers, and the explanation for the answer. I know how to break up the statements. However, I have to still work on building the vocabulary that is used.

Mr L'Amour's western writings raised me from a young teenager to a man now nearly 49. I never had a father and I grew up imagining Louis L'Amour was my dad. Goofy maybe, but for a 15 year-old boy he gave me the guidance I needed. I've read all his books again and again. Each time I get something from the reading. The characters are my family. The Sackett’s are the family I always wanted. Great historical fiction from a great man I new but never had the honor of meeting.

Louis L'Amour was a gifted story-teller. His books have been admired by readers of all ages and positions in life. I can say that, if you have a boy in your family who is a 'reluctant reader,' hand him a copy of one of the 'Sackett' series -- GALLOWAY is a good title to begin with. Almost guaranteed: the boy will like Galloway so much that he will want to begin the Sackett series at the beginning, and read all 17 or 18 books. A painless way to encourage a boy to become a reader. The Sackett series traces a lot of the history of the settling of the West, through the experiences and adventures of one family. Sacketts Land, begins with the first Sackett in England, and gets him to America. From the landing in the East, the stories steadily move the reader westward. Are you "tied in knots" with your job, (or whatever) pick up one of L. L'Amour's books and relax. Some of your problems will "come undone" in the right way. Any Sackett book will likely appeal, but I would suggest Galloway as a starter -- or, the Key-Lock Man, or Bendigo Shafter, or the short story collections: War Party and The Strong Shall Live. Almost guaranteed: you will be glad you did!

Having read all of the Sackett Series Books several years ago, I decided to read them again. Lando is very much like old Barnabas Sackett, in the description of his body build and his forgiving disposition. In fact, these are two of my favorite characters in the series. When beginning a new book in the series, if these same characters are not mentioned, I miss them as if a long, lost friend has left me forever.If you have not read any of the Sackett books or watched the t.v. series, Barnabas is basically the beginning of the line. I say this because he was an only child living in the Fins in England prior to boarding a ship to come to, what is now, the United States of America. His father taught him to wrestle, fist fight and how to use a sword. Barnabas passed these skills along to his own sons and they have continued the traditional teachings.This series is not just for the guys! It is an awesome story of a family line who sets their roots in the new world and how they manage to live off the land and to survive during brutal times. It is a story of love of the land, freedom and then the great love a person has for their spouse. You will want to read and read again over and over this great series of books.Louis L'Amour has written a tremendous number of books about the land, the people and the sheer determination to survive in a world that was uncivilized when they arrived. What an awesome writer of books! He traveled to the places he has written about and it is evident.

Never a disappointment from L'Amour. Solid characterization. Well woven plot. Descriptions so clear you feel you are standing on the peaks overlooking the land. L'Amour gives the reader a love of the land even though he's never seen it. No western author, before or so since, surpasses Louis L'Amour.

Years ago I read many of Louis Lamour's Western books.INMO he was one of the best Western writers. His characters are fantastically described as well as the scenery and the entire western environment.Sackett was one of his better books. The book is action packed and fast reading. I read it in 1/2 day. I'll just tell a little of the story to get your interest.William Tell Sackett was a 6ft 4in, mountain man, ex union solder and trail cowboy. In this book we meet his brothers and his mom. The brothers have made a great life for themselves, their wives and taking good care of their mom. Tell believes he is just a cowboy, good with a rifle and six gun and living off the land but has not done anything great. Later he finds a rich gold mother lode and a sick feverish young woman named Ange near the gold mine. Her Grandpa had died taking her prospecting to find the mine.Tell makes friends with an older man named Cap and together they plan a town near their goldmine claim. Other man try to steal the mine and take the town and Tell must fight with his guns.Here is a man that only wanted peace and maybe a small ranch and to find a good woman. However he must fight again and again. Later in a saloon he has a gunfight with a big mean man named Bigalow and .... ( read for yourself)Tell saves the life of a man with a broken leg in a savage, brutal winter storm in the mountains ( a man who wants to kill him and Angie).What a story! Tell what a man!I wont ruin the great ending. This book is recommended for anyone loving the wild west and to start reading the Sackett series. Louise Lamour my best western author. Bought and read this book again for our family library. 5 stars.

Another great installment in his terrific Sackett series and it had a brief crossover to his book, The First Fastdraw. His stories frequently follow similar patterns, but sometimes vary a little here and there, still, I find a comfort in the familiar. He weaves in a lot of historical figures, historical facts, and details that provide some verisimilitude. This was a good tale where the protagonist ventures out into the broader world and learns and grows. There is a bit of a mystery, and no shortage of action. A satisfying read!

Nice transcriptions of a very clever album.I would love to see a FAKEBOOK size version of this collection with melody,lyrics and chords yielding less page turns.But, honestly, once you get the basic grooves (most easily slapped into a looper) you're good to go.

Loved it so much I gave copies to my kids -- and they like it too! It's a nostalgic album for me, as some of the songs reflect my childhood in England. Plus - the songs are catchy, and Ed Sheeran is a true poet.

Bought this for a 10 year old who is self teaching. Seems great so far.

90% of this book is just a retelling of Apple's own user's manual.The section on hacking is so tacked on, that it appears after the index in the back and isn't even in the table of contents. Needless to say this book was published months after the first generation iPhone came out so the hacking material is sorely outdated and most useless as the programs it centers on (iBricker and AppTapp) have fallen out of usage in the community. The section on unlocking is also woefully outdated and not helpful at all except to point you to the iPhone Dev Team's website. If you have to buy a book about this, stick to something with a much more recent publication date, or just Google for the information.

I have used it for guidance on only one thing so far and it had what I needed.

I read this after having my iphone for only a few days. In those few days I learned 95%+ of what was in the book. The book was okay - I was just expecting to learn some amazing things and that wasn't the case. Probably an okay book for someone who has no technical expertise.

I will keep this review pretty basic with no extra secrets and all because that is how the book was as well.The book looked great and I had great hopes to pick up new "inside" information on my iPhone but instead I was able to read all the stuff I already knew and was either shown at the store when I first bought my phone or figured out on my own quickly after I left the store.How to do everything "basic" with your phone.

This book is thorough, basic, elemental. Yes, there's a section about "jail breaking" you iPhone to be able use third party apps...that's what the author is about in much of his work. It would be good to have this book in hand and some of it read before one's new iPhone is broken out of the box. For example, his tips about conditioning the battery on the very first charge and after are very, very valuable. I bought the book "too late." Much of it covers material I had already come across with my phone's use. The book was more basic, for the most part, than I had hoped. Get it before you get the iPhone or shortly thereafter...that way, your needs will coincide much more closely with the author's presentation. It's a very good manual...if you need it.

I was very disappointed in this manual. Many of the things I wanted to know about aren't even in the book. Voice Control is one of the best features of the iPhone and it isn't even listed in the index! There is a section about hacking your iPhone which was a waste to me. David Pogue's Missing Manual for iPhone is a much better choice.

This Canadian woman fell in love with the north and its people. She took her kayak on a long perilous trip where many would fear to go. What courage. She tells about her trip and the many places she visited and the people she met. She continued her trip alone after the man along on the trip proved hard to get along with. But she continued. She was planning more trips to her favorite part of the world but it was not to be. Though she did not live to continue kayaking she did what she wanted. She enjoyed life to the fullest and was not afraid to go where others would be afraid. What a terrific lady. Her health was not good but that would not deter her from living life.

Excellent book and surpasses her early traveling companion's book.

She was an incredible women. This journey she has shared about her life is a inspiration to all women searching for their inner strengths.

Our entire family shared this book and we still gifted it to a friend down south. Good story and highly recommend it as gifts.

I loved this book. Fantastic adventure.

Interesting book, I was up north flying when she did her summers and came through the place I was staying at but missed her. An extraordinary women to be doing a solo trip like that in the conditions she had. She was incredibly tough minded. It was so sad she passed away so young with so much left to do

A must read for lady kayakers!

"Kabloona" is a well-written and interesting story about an interesting lady who did an interesting paddle with some questionable partners. This I've read twice while her partner's I did not finish once. Her paddles in this area took root and she returned after to spend time in native villages that are as 3rd world as anywhere in the world. I reread it just before paddling in the Pelly Bay area and one in our group spotted the very small marker on the Ihoktok beach. Just a small plaque in a pretty spot along the shore with the tundra stretching up and away in the distance. No mention of her in Kugaaruk itself, but her presence would have had to have improved the community. I'd like to read her second book but have not found it available anywhere.
